Farming: It's a Wonderful Life!
Towards the end of the school year, we had our annual harvest field trip where the K3 to K5 classes went potato digging at a farm not too far away from school. Before our trip, we learned about how vegetables and fruits are made and grown and who makes them and how they come about to our table as delicious meals and snacks! But the best way to quench our curiosity is to use our (gloved) hands! So heigh-ho we went to dig dig dig dig dig at a farm! They, literally, enjoyed getting down and dirty in the rich soil and sweating their way through a whole row of spuds. Soon enough they all had a bagful to take home and a few extras to eat right away at school which we steamed and ate it in the best way with a sprinkle of salt and a spat of butter. And this is how we nurture and grow little minds at Gregg by learning inside the classroom and experiencing it outside!
