In December 2018, G5 + G6 had an amazing time exploring the world of contemporary art. We studied a range of movements and styles of contemporary art with a focus on surrealism and symbolism in collage and mixed media. The students learned how artists use symbolism in their art through colors, and that symbolic meanings can be attached to imagery to create a story within an art piece. Students then produced their own collage and mixed media works influenced by the art we looked at. The students created titles for their artworks and presented it professionally. We think that the resulting work would not look out of place in a contemporary art gallery!
