Water Droplets
The month of November for the class of grades 5 and 6 has a strong focus on physical sciences. Among other things, the students learned to use different scientific instruments to measure volume such as beakers, graduated cylinders, pipettes, and syringes.
We combined the tools we used in science class with the tools we usually use in art class to create artwork. The students carefully deposited water droplets on paper using syringes and pipettes in any way they wanted. Then they colored them using paint and paintbrushes. They shone a light through the droplets, and the teacher took a picture of their work.
Students’ creativity and fine motor skills were put to a test as they worked on the layout, sizes, shapes, colors, shadows, light, and angle of their artwork.
