The fifth and sixth graders connected wind and water erosion of sand (studied in September) and deserts found in Egypt (studied in October) to art. Using two different techniques they created lines that remind us of sand ripples.

They first got acquainted with the ancient Japanese technique of paper marbling called “suminagashi”. They produced some beautiful prints using black ink on white paper that they later altered using a graphic software on the computer.

Second, they marbled paper by pouring tiny drops of paint on a thin bed made of shaving foam. They stirred until they got the desired result and printed their design on paper.
